To restore the surviving Lincoln Organ to its full working order:
- to make it possible to play to its original tone and power
- to be an asset to the music of church service
- to augment the rich and active musical tradition in the church and town, from classical choral singing to traditional folk music
- to develop the sense of history and traditions of Thaxted in the primary school children, who take part in seasonal services, drama and other musical activities in the church.
- to offer an exceptional chance for both professional students and renowned musicians to play for recital and concert purposes
- to enhance the training of young organists from senior music colleges, nationally and internationally, about an important period of organ music.
- to involve as many members of the parish as possible in services, concerts and fund-raising activities.
- to preserve a substantial and important organ, presently in danger of deteriorating beyond repair, for our British heritage, It survives as the only unaltered 3-manual organ to have come down to us from the first four decades of the nineteenth century and is a valuable national treasure.
- if it is possible, it is our intention to create a student bursary to promote the organ’s future educational role.
